Jet2.com dispatcher Leon Mullineux has been hailed a ‘hero’ by an NHS surgeon, after not only finding his iPad at Manchester Airport, but taking the time to personally return the device – which contained thousands of priceless family photos - to him.
Olumide ‘Mide’ Ofinran, says Leon should be voted ‘Man of the Year’ after he spent his own time and money ensuring that he could personally return the device.
Mide, who lives in Birmingham and works as a surgeon for the NHS, was rushing to catch a flight from Manchester to Prague when he accidentally left his iPad at a cash point.
Enter Leon, who found the iPad and was able to get in touch with Mide after noticing that the device was unlocked and that there was an Instagram account set up on the device.
“I was in the Czech Republic mourning the loss of my iPad and all those happy memories, when Leon messaged me via Instagram to say he had found my iPad,” Mide said.
The surgeon was to get even more good news when big-hearted Leon offered to personally deliver the device to Mide at Manchester Airport, after learning when the surgeon would be returning to the UK. “I told him I would fly into the airport but that my flight was scheduled to arrive at 11pm. In his own private time, Leon went to the airport late at night, and although the flight arrived later than expected he then waited and paid for his own parking space.”
The two finally met and Mide said: “I gave him the hug of his life as I was so happy. I think I got a bit too excited as I almost choked him!”
Mide then offered Leon a reward, which he turned down flatly.
Leon said: “There’s no way I was going to take a reward from Mide. I’d like to think that someone would do the same for me. There was no password on the device and when I saw the screensaver of Mide and his family I knew that this was much more than an expensive tablet. It was a photo album and a collection of someone’s precious memories, so I wanted to make sure that I could reunite them with their owner. An iPad is replaceable but those memories aren’t, so thankfully I was able to get in touch with Mide via social media to get them back to him.”
Mide sums our thoughts up perfectly, when he says: “I thought people like Leon were extinct. He deserves a Man of the Year Award.”
Yes he does, well done Leon.
