Head to Budapest this spring to experience the city at its best for the Spring Festival. Taking place from 21^st March until 6^th April, the festival sees a selection of classical, opera, jazz and folk music performed throughout the city in a multitude of venues by both Hungarian and international artists.

Now in its 34^th year, the 2014 festival is set to be the biggest and brightest yet with over 50 performances and exhibitions during the 10 day period. Highlights include the premier of Parsifal and Rigoletto by the Hungarian State Opera, as well as solo recitals by two of today’s most sought-after baritones - Simon Keenlyside from Britain and Erwin Schrott from Uruguay. That’s not forgetting jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour, one of the greats of the genre with a 40-year career, who will appear in concert alongside Matt Bianco with his unique synthesis of jazz, Latin and pop.

The BBC Philharmonic will also be performing at the Palace of Arts as part of their European tour. The concert will hear the music of Rossini and Mendelssohn amongst others including two technically astounding percussion pieces performed by the ‘Wizard of Percussion’, Martin Grubinger.

Those interested in the visual arts will find special exhibits at the Budapest History Museum, which presents a selection of Hungarian painters’ self-portraits on loan from Florence’s prestigious Uffizi Gallery. Meanwhile, at the Hungarian National Gallery, the work of native expressionist artist, Gyula Derkovits, will be on view. The Ludwig Museum awaits lovers of contemporary art, while the Capa Centre opens new exhibits of photography.

In addition to the oracular entertainment, many more celebrations of the world of theatre and dance, fine arts and photography, film, contemporary circus and architecture will be featured. The Festival will inhabit the entire city, with musicians, dancers and performances appearing in the most unexpected places. It should make for an exciting time in Budapest, a perfect match for one of Europe’s most exciting capitals!
