According to a recent United Nations report, the Netherlands is the 4th happiest place on earth (NB. Disney World is not included in this report).
It’s no surprise that the Netherlands has been identified as such a high ranking happy place. Besides the beautiful scenery and laid back lifestyles, this country is renowned for its liberal values.
Amsterdam
The green initiatives in cities such as Amsterdam are no doubt partly responsible for producing brighter outlooks in its inhabitants. It is well known that healthy living and exercise increases the body’s release of endorphins, making us feel happier, and as anyone who has visited this bohemian city will know, Amsterdam is a cycling mecca.
The full top 5 happiest nations are identified as:
1. Denmark
2. Norway
3. Switzerland
4. Netherlands
5. Sweden
It’s easy to see a recurring trend between lifestyles and happiness as all these countries are focused on green living and cycling is particularly popular.
But there is also a place for hedonism and Amsterdam’s night life is right up there amongst the best in the world. The balance of lifestyles is probably attests to its consistent popularity.
