Berlin Art Week took place between the 17th to the 22nd of September this year and featured an impressive range of artists working with a variety of media; with more than 100 different painters exhibiting across four venues in the city.
The week was as diverse as ever and not just focused on painting but also emphasising performance and installations. Sarah Lucas presented her first exhibition dedicated to furniture and there were performances by Viennese art collective Gelatin who created sculptures in front of a live audience at the Schinkel Pavillon and these works are on display until November.
Highlights
Of particular interest is the Painting Forever: To Paint is to Love Again exhibition at The Deutsche Bank Kunsthalle gallery, which features an all-female cast of participating painters including: Antje Majewski, Katrin Plavčak and Giovanna Sarti.
Visitors to the gallery in Berlin can see these works up until 10th November 2013. The focus of this exhibition is centred by the Berlin-born, Weimar-era artist, Jeanne Mammen, who died in 1976 and the contemporary artists’ works reveal a relationship between Mammen and these artists working today.
