Recent figures have been released showing that Spain has seen 34 million tourists throughout the first seven months of 2013. This is said to be almost 4% higher against the same time period last year and, according to the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, a new record for the country.
Spain has long been a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer, so the increase in tourists visiting continues to be encouraging for the economy in the country. The international tourism record was set in 2008, but Spain exceeded this number by the end of July 2013 by 400,000.
In fact, July 2013 has been Spain’s best month ever for international tourism numbers. Around 7.8 million foreigners spent their holiday in Spain in July, which is almost 3% (around 321,000) more than the previous record set.
The Spanish Islands Prove Popular
The top countries contributing to Spain’s tourism include the loyal Brits, who holiday in Spain every year along with the Germans and the French. Cheap flights to the Balearic Islands or other top Spanish spots continue to be desirable for European tourists, and Jet2.com provides these cheap flights to the Balearic Islands as well as other destinations across Europe.
The top tourist destinations recorded throughout July were Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. The Balearic Islands received 6.2 million tourists, showing they are still a top destination for Spain’s regular tourists. Cheap flights to the Balearic Islands are all the rage, and Spain continues to welcome its British visitors.
