Lanzarote’s world famous marathon will be taking place this December, drawing athletes from all walks of life to compete for the prestigious number one spot.
The Lanzarote International Marathon will see runners streaming through the streets of Costa Teguise, a town sitting on the island’s sun-washed east coast.
To enter the race, users have to start by emailing the marathon’s website and specifying if they are registering for the marathon, a half marathon or the 10 kilometre run. To get to the island, cheap flights to Lanzarote are available from Jet2.com.
Run Along Lanzarote’s Coast
The marathon will have participants starting off in the town of Costa Teguise, weaving their way along the cost through Lanzarote’s capital city, Arrecife. From there, runners will be steered through Playa Honda to finish a little further along the coastal road in Los Pocillos.
A number of aid stations are dotted along the route set out for the costal run, including checkpoints at which athletes can get water or isotonic drinks. Energy drinks will also be made available, along with nutritional bars, Coca-Cola and fresh fruit.
Medical support will also be on hand throughout the course of the day’s event, with lines of communication set up between the aid stations and medical staff for the safety of the runners.
Those from the UK interested in braving the volcanic island’s notoriously sweltering heat to participate in the event are advised to arrange cheap flights to Lanzarote sooner rather than later, as entrant prices rise as the event date draws near. Full details of pricing are available on the official Lanzarote International Marathon website.
