Announcements

The increasingly popular World Cinema Amsterdam, a festival that celebrates films from Africa, Latin America and Asia, is on its way to the city again this August.

The upcoming dates represent the festival’s third year and while more specific details of the screenings are yet to be revealed, those travelling with Jet2.com to Amsterdam this summer can expect the 2013 event to match the vivacity of World Cinema Amsterdam 2012.

For those booking cheap flights to Amsterdam, the event is expected to comprise more than 40 individual shorts and feature-length films – many of which will be accompanied by Q&A sessions.

There will also be a host of discussions to attend on the various screenings, as well as parties and masterclasses in film making.

Numerous Locations

Last year, two more venues in Amsterdam - the Vondelpark Open Air Theatre and De Balie – were added to the list of the festival’s locations and will remain as event venues this year. Other locations in use include Amsterdam’s popular Rialto cinema – located along Ceintuurbaan – and Marie Heinekenplein, an open circular space lined with cafes and restaurants.

Launching in 2010, World Cinema Amsterdam proved immensely popular; the following year, the number of visitors to the various shows increased by 50%.

Each year, the festival runs a competition and has awards for both audience choice and titles selected by a board.

Those planning to attend the world cinema festival, which is taking place August 7 -18, should book cheap flights to Amsterdam as soon as possible to avoid missing out.
