Rome Is A Blessed Destination This Summer

British people are very fond of taking cheap flights to Rome, and with such a rich tradition of food, history and entertainment, it is little surprise. This summer however, there will be one extra guest in the city, as Pope Francis breaks with tradition.
The recently installed Argentinian pope, formally cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, is to take his summer in the Vatican City, instead of heading for the hills of Castel Gandolfo. The lavish summer palace there has historically been used in the hotter months of the year.
It is yet another example of how Francis is trying to give the Catholic Church a more austere image, although it is unlikely that the Pope will spend too much time visiting the sites in the Eternal City, as many people visiting Rome with Jet2.com will this year.
Tick Off the Sights
As well as the usual hot destinations of the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon, there are a great many other things to enjoy after arriving on flights to Rome this year.
A particular highlight will be the Incontra il Mondo, which runs through the summer. Featuring musicians from across the globe, the stunning lakeside setting of the Villa Ada will add to the beautiful atmosphere created by the classical instruments.
For something completely different, Gay Village 2013 gets under way on June 20, and runs right through until August at locations all across the city.
These are only two of the festivals that Rome will enjoy this year of course, and there are many more coming up through the summer. Whether a lover of film, theatre or dance, there will be something to inspire every visitor.
