Croatia Set for Tourism Boost After EU Announcement

After a decade of attempts, Croatia has joined the EU, with the country’s president describing the event as Croatia’s “return to the European Family”.
It is expected that the move will pave the way for Croatia to continue its drive to increase tourism. As the Union’s 28th member, the country’s relaxing of its entry process is set to make things easier for British visitors taking cheap flights to Split, Hajduk and Dubrovnik.
Any boost to tourism will only add to the increase in visitor numbers seen over recent years. One of the country’s main flight hubs, Zagreb Airport, for example, saw a rise of 8.8 per cent in people passing through in the months leading to March. Also, in 2012, well over 330,000 Britons visited the country, representing a massive 24 per cent increase on the previous year’s figure.
One of the Most Successful Tourist Seasons
To celebrate the announcement, London has embraced the ‘Welcome Croatia’ event. President Josipović spoke to the festival’s official website about his country’s popularity rise, saying:
“I can state with pleasure that this year we have had one of the most successful tourist seasons with a significant increase in the number of British tourists.
“I am positive that this [Welcome Croatia] festival will be an additional motivation for the British to explore this ‘small country for a great holiday’ and to accept Croatia as their future favourite tourist destination.”
Jet2.com, have provided further boosts for Croatia’s economy by offering cheap flights to Split and Dubrovnik, and passengers will now also benefit from improved medical cover with the EHIC card.
