With its mix of theatre, comedy, music and good times on offer, Prague’s very own take on the Edinburgh Fringe Festival has been building a loyal following with a wider European crowd. Starting on May 24th and with performances from across the globe held at various venues throughout the city, Prague’s Fringe Festival really offers something for everyone every day of the week!

Set over 9 days, festival tickets can be picked up for only £5 (student tickets are less than £3) and beers sold at or near the venues are priced at £1.50 or less so you can be sure to have a top night out for less than a takeaway back home.

Festival director Steve Gove explains: “Comedy, music and theatre is typically what’s on offer, and as everything is either in English or non-verbal, there are no language barriers.” Shows are sharp and short, allowing visitors to venue-hop as much as they like: a £20 multi ticket gets you into five performances, most within walking distance of each other.

An added bonus is that the events are held at venues not usually open to the public, giving you the chance to see the interiors of places such as Divadlo Inspirace, a small 60-seater inside the huge Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts.

Also worth a visit is the Fringe Club, which gets going after the shows stop in the Malostranska besada (former town hall), a late-renaissance building. Gove, a Scot who’s been living in Prague for 15 years, adds: “The venues are all off these atmospheric cobbled streets. Food and drink is cheap in the area, and warm spring nights are great for outdoor dining after the shows are over.”

Jet2.com offers cheap flights to Prague from Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle Airport, as well as East Midlands – new for next winter. With fares starting from as little as £29 per person for a one way fare including tax, it’s a great destination for any budget.
