An event to celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest was held in Amsterdam recently, ahead of the finals of the competition set to be held in Malmo, Sweden.

The fifth annual Eurovision pre-party was recently held at the Melkweg Club in Amsterdam. The party played host to 25 performers from around Europe, who gathered to showcase their entries for the Eurovision Song Contest before jetting off to the official contest.

Cheap flights to Amsterdam have always been popular due to the Dutch capital’s thriving nightlife scene, but over the last few years it has evolved to become the unofficial capital of Eurovision parties. This year's event was bigger and better than ever, with more acts attending than ever before and a queue of people lining up for admittance to the concert.

It Started As a Joke

One of the organisers behind the Eurovision preview event, Rene Romkes, commented on its growing success, saying:

"What started off as a joke five years ago has become an annual event, and to be honest with you, it has become bigger than we ever expected."

This pre-party for the Eurovision Song Contest is just the beginning. Even those who may not find Eurovision exactly to their tastes are sure to be swept up in the excitement of the Eurovision parties that spring up in Amsterdam at the time of the official event.

Many people from the UK take cheap flights to Amsterdam with airlines like Jet2.com as, despite the fact that the final of the contest is being held elsewhere, the party atmosphere in the city simply draws people in for a night of cheesy pop and good fun.
