Croatia’s tourist industry is set for a bumper year, and the race is on to book cheap flights to Dubrovnik, where many hotels are already fully sold out for the summer season.

On the eve of its entry into the EU, Croatia has become one of the hottest beach destinations in Europe. Many hotels in popular resorts like Dubrovnik are already fully booked for the peak summer season, accompanied by a surge in the frequency and number of flights to the coast. Tourism is expected to rocket still further once the country joins the European Union in July.

UNESCO World Heritage Site

Once, Dalmatia was best known for its association with a certain breed of spotty dog, but today, it is fast becoming a centre for tourism. A beautiful coastline framed by an alpine backdrop of forested mountains, complemented by a warm Mediterranean climate and cheap accommodation, makes it ideal for a family holiday. The area is rich in history and culture too – something the Central Dalmatian Tourist Board is keen to promote.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dubrovnik offers an excellent mix of culture and family activities, with the warm waters of the Adriatic perfect from swimming, and the ancient walls and mediaeval streets offering terrific places to explore. With an award-winning summer arts festival lasting more than six weeks, and top quality restaurants and hotels, it is an ideal family holiday destination.

Croatia is also gaining a reputation for its sophisticated nightlife and live music events. Hvar has three major festivals this year, including the first ever Ultra Europe festival in July. Jet2.com has regular cheap flights to Dubrovnik, Hvar and Split – though the hotels are booking up fast.
