Announcements

Christmas may be over, but there plenty of other reasons to book cheap flights to Prague – such as the Easter markets, which are every bit as festive as those held in December in the Czech capital.

The 2013 Prague Easter markets will be held from March 16 to April 7. Mainly confined to Wenceslas and Old Town Square, they bear many similarities to the markets held at Christmas, with gaily decorated red-roofed stalls selling wooden toys, embroidery, glassware, and other hand-crafted goods. A myriad of delicious aromas – such as roast ham, Trdelník pastries, Pilsner lager and spicy sausages – assail the nostrils, while children’s choirs, folk singers and dancers provide traditional entertainment.

A Touch of Easter Too

Easter eggs have a particular significance in Prague. All over the city, there are ladies in traditional Czech costume, selling brightly painted eggs (kraslice) which can be personalised with a name or message. These delightful keepsakes are not solely for the visitors. Each Easter Sunday, hundreds of Czech women and girls craft intricate eggs decorated with beeswax, feathers, straw and other adornments, with prizes for the best ones. The men and boys, meanwhile, make braided osier whips (pomlázka) which the ladies later decorate with ribbons.

Easter in Prague is particularly special for children. A craft cabin in the Old Town Square has themed activities such as flower-pot painting, while next door is a “farmyard” with rabbits and other animals. To get a taste of all of that the Czech capital has to offer at Easter, families can book cheap flights to Prague through Jet2.com.
