With stunning panoramic views, fabulous architecture and a rich history, more and more people are discovering the delights of Budapest, but one of the best times to visit is around Christmas when the city becomes almost magical. Twinkling lights and grand trees decorate every street and although the weather turns rather chilly, it’s worth packing plenty of knitwear and taking cheap flights to Budapest for an unforgettable city break experience!

After arriving in Budapest you’ll no doubt have an appetite, so why not head to one of the city’s Christmas markets to indulge in some traditional Hungarian festive foods? You can enjoy kenyérlángos, a flat bread baked in a cob oven followed by a sweet pastry called kürtoskalács, and washed down with plenty of forralt bor (mulled wine).

Treats, Toys & Trams

Of course whilst you’re at the Christmas markets you won’t be able to resist taking a look at all of the other delightful treats on offer, including handmade Hungarian toys and trinkets. Although there are numerous markets to be found the most popular is to be found at Vörösmarty Square, and hosts over 100 different stalls each year.

Another important festive feature in Budapest is the Christmas Tram, which is simply one of the city’s regular trams adorned with thousands of fairy lights yet is a huge hit with visitors and locals alike! You don’t need a special ticket to ride the tram too, so look out for its arrival and make your journey around the city even more special.

You should also make time to take in a concert at St. Stephen’s Basilica, the road to which is beautifully illuminated at Christmas. However you’ll find something wonderful around every corner at Christmas in Budapest, so snap up your cheap flights from Jet2.com today!
