Over 25,000 participants will take part in Hungary’s biggest running event, the annual Budapest Marathon, on 11th October 2015. Runners from all over the world will compete in the race that crosses the Danube River, taking in both the Buda and Pest sides of the city.
Competitors will begin their race in the historic Hősök tere (Heroes' Square), before kicking for home on the final stretch into Városliget (City Park).
Cheered on by thousands of spectators and buoyed by the open-air musical performances, those taking part will enjoy one of the most atmospheric marathons in Europe. What’s more, afterwards competitors can bathe their aching feet at the Széchenyi thermal baths – one of the world’s largest medicinal baths.
As well as the standard marathon, runners have the option of competing in the marathon relay, 30k and 10k races and a number of shorter distance events including a family run and short walk.
Last year’s men’s marathon winner was Tamás Nagy in a time of 2:27:15, while Simona Staicu won the women’s race in 2:51:08.
