Jet2.com Celebrates a Decade of Air-chievements

Jet2.com today marked a decade of flying from Newcastle International Airport by surprising loyal local employees also celebrating their 10 year milestone with the airline, with a giant birthday cake.
Jet2.com commercial director, Steve Lee, paid a special visit to the airport to help staff Claire Burns, Hayley Bushby, Sharon Davis, Paul and Gemma Fisher (who met and married while working for the airline) plus Vicky Vardy, celebrate this landmark occasion. Lucky customers checking in for their flight to Prague were also treated to a slice of the birthday action.
Since first jetting off from the region in 2005, Jet2.com has grown to become Newcastle’s biggest carrier of international passengers, carrying more than 4.4 million over the past 10 years. From starting with two routes, one aircraft and 10 staff it now boasts 31 exciting sun, city and ski destinations, operates six aircraft and has over 200 employees.
A decade on the growth is continuing. Girona (Costa Brava) has already been added as a brand new destination for summer 2016 and a seventh aircraft next year will also see more flights to popular hotspots including Alicante, Crete, Gran Canaria, Majorca and Zante.
Steve Lee said: “We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating 10 years of flying at Newcastle International Airport. It’s fantastic that over four million local customers have enjoyed our great value flights and award winning customer service and we’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to our growth over the years, especially our colleagues.
“We’re now looking forward to the next 10 years and with 2016 set to be our biggest year yet at Newcastle I’m sure we’ll be celebrating even more success!”
Leon McQuaid, Aviation Development Manager at Newcastle International Airport, added: “We are delighted to be celebrating 10 years of Jet2.com operating from Newcastle International Airport.
“It’s amazing how, in the last ten years, the airline has gone from one route to more than thirty, and we look forward to seeing even more new Jet2.com destinaitons from the North East over the next decade.”

- 760,914 passengers flew with Jet2.com last year.
- Newcastle’s favourite Jet2.com destination is Majorca.
- The airline has five routes which are exclusive to Newcastle Airport: Krakow, Murcia, Pisa, Prague and Rome.
- 6.2 million items of luggage and 41,467 sets of golf clubs have been carried since 2005.
- The most popular hot meal with Newcastle passengers is the All Day Breakfast.
- And the most popular sandwich is a chicken salad on white bloomer.
