2013 could be the year when party lovers book cheap flights to the Spanish Costas, with resorts from Cadiz to Barcelona rocking to the rafters with top class international acts.
The Spanish coast is divided into nine distinct areas (the Costas), which extend from the Costa de la Luz near Portugal, to the Costa Brava next door to France. Each has its own character and flavour, but 2013 will see them united by a common factor – live music. Over the next twelve months, some of the best known names in the industry will be gracing Spanish shores, with a succession of concerts and festivals covering every genre from hip hop to jazz.
Barcelona – one of the music capitals of Europe – will be headlining Blur at the Primavera Sound Festival, which is a beachfront event taking place between May 22 and 26. Those looking for 1980s nostalgia should wait until June, when Kraftwerk and the Pet Shop Boys are among the line-up at the Sonar Festival.
Moving south towards the Costa Ahazar and Valencia we find Benicassim, a pleasant mountain-backed resort which each summer plays host to one of the fastest growing festivals in Europe. Scheduled for July 18 - 21, this year sees Azealia Banks, Queens of the Stone Age and The Killers take to the stage. There’s also a Reggae Sunsplash Festival in August.
Benidorm, Arenal, Malaga, Castellon and many other resorts will also be holding live music events this summer, with cheap flights to the Spanish Costas available from Jet2.com at a number of airports.
