Brits Jet Off for Bank Holiday

Bank holidays are always a time when Brits take mini breaks away, either in the UK or abroad, and this year it has been no different. It was estimated that more than six million Brits made overnight trips during the bank holiday weekend – 1.8 million of which were taken abroad. Those who booked cheap flights to the Balearic Islands and other top destinations overseas had the weather advantage against those booking UK holidays.
Many Brits decided to stay in the UK due to the recent high temperatures and sunny weather, but the future now looks rainy in many parts of England, so many people are snatching up last minute holidays abroad to avoid the wet weather.
Spain Remains A Popular Choice
Spain continued to be the number one destination this bank holiday, particularly the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. It is estimated that Heathrow and Gatwick received more than 600,000 passengers in total over the whole weekend, and Manchester and Birmingham were also said to be busy.
Travel organisation Abta’s chief executive says that bank holiday weekends are always the busiest times of the year. Many holidaymakers book cheap flights to the Balearic Islands or other parts of Spain towards the end of summer.
