There’s more than just sunshine and beaches to be gained by booking cheap flights to the Greek Islands with Jet2.com. According to Greek tourism minister Olga Kefalogianni, tourism will have a vital role to play in the country’s economic recovery too.

Speaking at the 2012 World Travel Market event at London’s ExCeL Centre, Kefalogianni stressed that Greece and its islands were heavily dependent on its tourist trade, which accounts for a fifth of the country’s employment, and 18% of its GDP. She explained:

"Tourism as a sector is a major boost for the Greek economy, and will continue to play a major role in the economic recovery."

Make the Most of the Great Deals

Industry analyst Mike Bugsgang agreed, pointing out that it wasn’t all bad news and there are many great holiday deals to be snapped up. This makes it an ideal time to treat yourself to a cheap flight to the Greek Islands, to make the most of the low prices and do your part to support the local economy.

Olga Kefalogianni is now determined to see more people experience her country’s unique charm and hospitality, using WTM 2012 as a platform to launch a creative, but budget-conscious marketing campaign aimed at key markets like the UK.

Companies like Jet2.com are aiding her efforts by offering cheap flights to Rhodes, Crete and other popular Greek destinations, which remain as popular as ever.
