Muttereralm ski resort

High above the rooftops of Innsbruck, hidden in the forested slopes between Mutters and Götzens, lies Muttereralm. If you’re after a ski break that blends ease, charm and a touch of adventure – this is a resort that delivers. Think wide, friendly runs for first-timers and winter fun that includes sledging, snow-shoeing or just relaxing on a sun-drenched terrace. In total, you’ll find around 16km of groomed pistes, spanning altitudes from 950m up to 1800m. It’s a fab option for families, thanks to the Kinderland area, complete with thrilling toboggan runs. If you’re new to skiing, this a dreamy place to start. There’s over 6km of blue slopes, including wide, gentle valley runs and dedicated beginner zones. So, you’ll have the space to practise your turns, build confidence and learn at your own pace. The dedicated beginner area, accessed by a magic carpet right at the top-station of the main gondola, is ideal. Once you’ve mastered the basics, head for the Götzens Run, a tree-lined red piste that winds through woodland. For piste pros looking to test their mettle, there’s a black-rated slope served by the Pfriemesköpfl chairlift. On certain days, the slopes are open for ski touring too.

The location

Mutteralm sits only about 10km from central Innsbruck, easily reached by free ski-bus, train or car. The main lifts are the eight-person gondolas (the refurbished Muttereralmbahn and the Nockspitzbahn), a four-seater chairlift, a T-bar and magic carpets for children. All are modern, efficient and family-friendly. Want to explore more? Muttereralm is part of a larger network (Olympia SkiWorld Innsbruck), meaning you could easily combine your stay with a visit to a neighbouring ski area.

More giggles, less wiggles

Muttereralm is wonderfully set up for families who value ease, safety and winter fun. Beyond the beginner zones and ski schools, the mountain offers gentle winter hiking trails where little legs can explore without skis. Youngsters will also love the separate sledding areas, where you can zip down long, winding tracks together.

Fuel the fun

The dining scene might be small around these parts, but there’s still lots for foodies to get stuck into. Mountain huts serve hearty, home-style dishes. Think dumpling variations, stews, fresh soups and crisp strudel straight from the oven. Coffee and cake stops are part of the routine here too.

Après activities

Instead of buzzy parties, you’ll discover warm lounges, sun terraces and friendly local bars. Grab a hot chocolate by the fire, sample Tyrolean schnapps or sip a beer while watching the sun slip behind the Nordkette. The vibe suits families, couples and anyone who prefers a more laidback atmosphere.
