Recruitment, Announcements

Two colleagues from Jet2 are amongst the first cohort of apprentices to start on a brand-new apprenticeship, after the leading leisure airline and UK’s largest tour operator joined a trailblazing group to amend the programme so that it includes skills dedicated to the aviation industry.

Safah Ratyal and Sehrish Alam, both from Leeds, are currently undertaking an 18-month Transport Scheduler apprenticeship in aviation. Previously, the Transport Scheduler apprenticeship was only for those working in the tram, bus, coach and rail transport networks, however after Jet2 worked with several other companies within the aviation sector to overhaul the apprenticeship standard, it has now been widened to include aviation.

Both Safah and Sehrish are Apprentice Crew Planners for Jet2 based at Leeds Bradford Airport and are working towards completing their apprenticeships after the programme was changed to include the aviation sector and rolled out for the first time last year.

As part of their apprenticeships, Safah and Sehrish will gain the skills and knowledge involved to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Jet2 network by coordinating schedules, crew rosters, and resources.

This news comes after Jet2 was announced as one of the supporters for the fourth year running of National Apprenticeship Week, taking place this week (9th – 15th February), with Safah and Sehrish both representing Jet2 and Yorkshire & Humber at the Apprenticeship Ambassador Network Bake Off this week in Grantham.

For the fourth year running, the leading leisure airline and UK’s largest tour operator have shown their support for the 19th annual National Apprenticeship Week by hosting a range of activities during the week including an apprentice teambuilding activity with Macmillan, one of the companies’ charity partners, exhibiting at the Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair, and holding inspirational career talks at schools and colleges.

Jet2 has a nationwide apprenticeship programme that is continually expanding at the business continues to grow, with roles ranging from entry level to supporting existing colleagues to progress.

When completing an apprenticeship with Jet2, apprentices have the opportunity to gain practical work experience, key professional skills and industry recognised qualifications whilst earning a salary. Currently, the companies employ over 200 apprentices ranging from Levels 2-7, all of which are working towards their respective qualifications with a view to progressing into permanent roles or to support their career development within the company.

Later this year, Jet2 will host its biggest ever apprenticeship graduation ceremony to date. After graduating from the companies’ apprenticeship scheme, many apprentices have now secured permanent positions at Jet2 as well as internal apprentices achieving promotions through their apprenticeship qualifications.

Safah Ratyal, Apprentice Crew Planner at Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “I am so thrilled to join this new apprenticeship programme, which I know will help me develop my career in this fascinating industry. With so much to learn and so much ahead, I am very grateful to my employer for providing this opportunity which I intend to grab with both hands.”

Miriam D’souli, HR Director at Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, added: “It is critical that we continue to develop the next generation of talent, and apprenticeships are a fantastic way of doing this. At Jet2 we have a long track record of supporting, and investing in, apprenticeships and we are once again demonstrating our commitment to them by helping to shape the Transport Scheduler programme to include the incredible world of aviation.”
