On 2nd April 2008, the first Jet2.com flight landed in Paphos from Leeds Bradford Airport and over a decade and a half later the leading leisure airline is celebrating 15 years of operating award-winning flights to Cyprus.
Since 2008, when Jet2.com operated just one route to Cyprus (Paphos), the company has enjoyed tremendous growth, both through Jet2.com and tour operator Jet2holidays, with nearly two million customers having travelled to the destination.
Today, the companies operate to Paphos from all ten of their UK bases with 19 routes on sale, and over 700,000 million seats on sale this summer. On 20th May 2009, Jet2.com also started operating flights to Larnaca for the first time, and for Summer 23 the companies have flights and holidays to the destination on sale from nine bases (Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle International and London Stansted).
The scale of this operation means that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are now the UK’s largest airline to Cyprus based on the number of routes operated between the UK and both bases. In addition, Jet2holidays has over 150 hotels and villas on sale, as well as a team of over 60 colleagues employed in the country for Summer 23, including almost 60 uniformed Jet2holidays customer helpers.
This coming summer represents Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ biggest ever summer programme to Cyprus, with over 60 weekly flights arriving from the UK during peak periods. This offers customers and independent travel agents unrivalled choice and flexibility when it comes to booking and travelling on award-winning flights and ATOL package holidays to Paphos and Larnaca this summer.
As well as booking and travelling on award-winning flights and ATOL protected package holidays to Cyprus, customers can experience and enjoy the company’s VIP customer service which has seen Jet2.com and Jet2holidays win high-profile accolades, such as Which? Recommended Provider and TripAdvisor’s Best Airline – UK and Top 10 Airlines of the World.
This VIP customer service includes friendly low fares, great flight times and a generous 22kg baggage (plus 10kg hand baggage) allowance through a flight-only booking with Jet2.com. Holidaymakers booking through the UK’s largest tour operator, Jet2holidays, receive that very same VIP customer service and flights through Jet2.com, as well as in-resort Customer Helpers, 24/7 customer helpline, transfers, free child places and ATOL protection, all for a low £60 per person booking deposit.
Jet2holidays has recently announced that its exclusive Free Resort Flight Check-in® service will return this summer in more than 50 hotels initially in Cyprus for Summer 23. The return of the innovative service from the end of April, means that customers in selected hotels in Paphos and Larnaca will once again be able to benefit from using it.
The smart, free service allows customers to check-in their bags at the hotel in the morning on their day of departure, leaving them bag-free for the rest of the day and at the airport. Customers simply drop their bags off securely with Jet2holidays’ specialist Free Resort Flight Check-in® Team at the hotel, and the bags are then safely transported to the airport by the team and stowed onto the aircraft.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “This year marks 15 years since we started operating to Cyprus, when we had just one route on sale. Today, we operate an enormous programme with unrivalled frequency to Paphos and Larnaca from the UK, and we have flown millions of customers to this magnificent country. Such growth and success over the last decade and a half would not be possible without the fantastic partnerships we have in Cyprus, and I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to hoteliers, airports, tourist boards and all our partners. As we continue to grow and take more customers to Paphos and Larnaca on our award-winning flights and holidays, we will continue to put that partnership approach at the very heart of everything that we do and bring even more happy holidaymakers to Cyprus.”
Hermes CEO Eleni Kaloyirou commented: “Today we celebrate an important milestone for Jet2.com. For the past fifteen years, the airline has been operating flights to Cyprus, making the airline a valued partner of the airports and the country. We are confident that our cooperation will continue fruitfully in the years to come with a significant contribution and further growth.”
Doros Georgiades, Senior Tourist Officer and Head of International Relations at Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism said: Over these years, Jet2.com has played a pivotal role in the support of the UK market's tourism flow to the island. We are immensely grateful for the commitment the Group has consistently shown, as well as the respect with which it has treated both its clients and its industry partners, in every business aspect.”
