British entrepreneur and Barcelona resident Lisa Grace, has launched a great new business venture in Barcelona that provides jobs for the city’s homeless residents.

‘Hidden City Tours’ utilises the intimate knowledge of homeless people who have lived on the streets of Barcelona to guide people around all the fascinating sights that are left off the well-trodden tourist trail. A similar programme in the UK has proved successful which has inspired the development of this programme in Spain.

A Step in the Right Direction

With roughly 3000 homeless people, of whom it is estimated 870 actually sleep rough on the streets, it is certainly a welcomed project in Barcelona that can really help people get on their feet to move on to better living conditions.

The tour guides employed on the programme have been selected from a local shelter and trained to deliver top quality service and detailed knowledge, drawing from personal experience and advice from local historians. Don’t be misled, the tours are not about homelessness and poverty but are explorations into the history of this colourful Spanish city.

To find out more about the project and responsible tourism you can visit the Hidden City Tours website.
