According to figures released by the Tenerife Tourism Corporation, the number of tourists heading to the island from the UK rose significantly in May this year.
The reports show that the total number of UK visitors rose by 14.2 per cent – a figure representing more than 136,000 individuals.
The UK is currently the island’s biggest source of tourism and Jet2.com experiences a high demand for cheap flights to Tenerife every year.
Rise in Popularity at Hot Spots
The findings also revealed that Tenerife’s south side maintained its position as the favoured hotspot for British holidaymakers, with 133,755 people from the UK landing there during the month.
Other areas in Tenerife likewise experienced notable increases in tourist crowds. Both Santa Cruz – capital city of the island – and Tenerife’s northern region experienced rises of 27.3 per cent and 2.3 per cent respectively against the same point in 2012.
Speaking about the figures, the travel industry and promotion director of the Tenerife Tourism Corporation, Pia Louw, said the company is “thrilled” over the positive tourist numbers and the fact that Tenerife has maintained its position as a holiday hotspot. She added that Tenerife offers visitors great value for their money, with sunshine guaranteed.
Every year, around 1.6 million Britons come to Tenerife on holiday, making it officially one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations. Those booking cheap flights to Tenerife can expect to enjoy some of Europe’s most luxurious hotels while engaging in an array of activities.
Tenerife’s repeat visitor rate with UK tourists is also unrivalled, standing at 80%.
