The Scots may have a reputation for frugality, but when it comes to booking cheap flights to Tenerife, the real bargain-hunters would appear to be south of the border.

Research by a discount travel website has revealed that Scottish travellers will be spending around £242 more per person on their 2013 holidays than the national average. This is very different to last year, when the Scots – were the thriftiest holiday spenders in the UK. However, more than 30% of those who cut back on spending in 2012 will be putting the money towards more expensive holidays this year. Overall, almost 85% of Scottish travellers will be spending at least as much as they did in 2012, with some of them spending considerably more.

Booking Classier Holidays in 2013

The 2013 holiday forecast is equally optimistic across the whole of Britain, with an estimated 1.5 million more travellers planning trips than this time last year. Expenditure is also up, with an estimated increase of £1.6bn over the next twelve months. This equates to an average spend per person of £1,944 – a rise of 2%.

Statistics show that British travellers will be booking classier holidays in 2013, staying in four and five star hotels and resorts. However they will still expect good value for money, with 25% saying they will actively seek out discounted tickets. Jet2.com specialises in cheap flights to Tenerife and other destinations, with travellers able to choose accommodation that is as opulent if they want to spend the many they saved on the flight, or keep it frugal if they are on a tight budget.
