Overview

With a world-famous history, spanning maritime to music, it’s no wonder Liverpool is one of the most culture-packed and vibrant cities in the UK. The Beatles, the River Mersey, the Cavern Club, the Royal Albert Dock, Aintree, Anfield... Liverpool has a long list of icons to show off. And the local Liverpudlians are always on hand to help do just that when they welcome visitors to their much-loved hometown.

The Fab Four

John, Paul, George and Ringo need no introduction, but of course, they make up The Beatles, who put Liverpool on the worldwide map back in the 1960s. From the Cavern Club and Magical Mystery Tour of their childhood homes and hotspots to The Beatles Story experience on the Royal Albert Dock, you can’t miss the city’s homage to these rock ‘n’ roll legends.

A city of culture

Liverpool lies on the River Mersey, which made it a big deal back in its port-trading heyday. The city’s wealthy past is clear to see in landmarks like the Liver Building and St George’s Hall. As for museums, make Tate Liverpool your first stop, then catch a concert at The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. And the events? Think creative theatre to colourful street parties and The Grand National horse race.

So much more to explore

If you can tear yourself away from all the goings-on in Liverpool, there’s plenty of adventure to be had nearby. New Brighton is a cute coastal town across the Mersey that’s worth checking out. Meanwhile, The Wirral is home to some lovely nature parks and high-end suburbs to mooch around, not to mention the 19th-century model village of Port Sunlight.

Top local attractions in Liverpool

Royal Albert Dock

This industrial looking dock is one of Liverpool’s top attractions – and with good reason. It’s around this square of waterside buildings you’ll find modern art to muse over at Tate Liverpool, everything you need to know at The Beatles Story and bits from the Titanic at the Maritime Museum. There are plenty of bars and restaurants too, plus a buzzy atmosphere to boot.

Mersey Ferries

You can’t leave Liverpool without taking a ferry ‘cross the Mersey before you go! Line up the perfect snap of Liverpool’s historic waterfront from a distance, as you sit back, soak up the scene and listen to expert commentary on a 50-minute round trip. You can tick off a selfie with a statue of The Beatles near the ferry terminal too!

Anfield

Liverpool FC fan? Then no trip to this great city would be complete without a stadium tour of Anfield. You’ll likely never walk alone, as you join heaps of other footie lovers on a tour of this 61,000-seater football ground heavyweight. Getting comfy in Arne Slot’s seat, walking down the players’ tunnel and nosing around the dressing rooms are just a few of the highlights.
